Dragon Chicken - Dragon Chicken Recipe

Call it Dragon Chicken, Chili Chicken or Kung Pao Chicken, their recipes are so similar and mouth-watering that you can’t resist a plateful of them.

Dragon Chicken is an Indo-Chinese delicacy and a favorite among kids. Serving it with bread or a bowl of rice would just enhance its taste. The consistency of this dish is dependent on your taste. You could have it dry or with a thick gravy, anything that suits you. All you need to do is add lesser of the liquid ingredients and add more corn flour.

Everyone has their own way of cooking and adding twists to the recipes. So don’t be afraid to add your own ideas if you think it would taste better.

Here’s how I make it!

Chicken breast                                          –           4-5 pieces

Refined oil                                                 –           for deep frying

Red and Yellow Bell Peppers                 –           2

Tomatoes (de-seeded)                             –           1

Spring onion greens and bulb                –           1 cup of each (chopped)

All-Spice Powder

(or Garam masala Powder)                     –           1 tsp

Red Chilli Powder                                      –           1 tsp

Ginger                                                          –           1 tsp (finely chopped)

Garlic                                                           –           3 tsp (finely chopped)

Green chillies (sliced)                               –           2

Chicken Stalk                                             –           1 cups

Soy sauce                                                    –           3 tbsp

Tomato Ketchup                                       –           3 tbsp

Cornflour                                                    –           2 tsp

All-Purpose Flour                                     –           2 tsp

For Marination

Lemon juice                                               –           2 tsp

Salt                                                               –           1 tsp

Red Chilli Powder                                     –           1 ½ tsp

Ginger garlic paste                                    –           1 tbsp

  1. Clean and wash the chicken breasts and slice them up to desired portions.
  2. For the marination, take a bowl and put the chicken pieces in. Add in the salt, pepper, red chilli powder, lemon juice and ginger garlic paste.
  3. Keep this aside so that the all of the marinade incorporates into every part of the chicken breasts. Keep aside for half an hour.
  4. After half an hour, prepare the chicken for deep frying. In the bowl with the marinated chicken, add in cornflour and all-purpose flour in equal proportions. To this add a little chicken stalk to mix everything together perfectly.
  5. Heat a wok with refined oil. Once the oil is hot enough, put in the marinated chicken pieces. Deep fry until golden brown.
  6. Put the deep fried chicken pieces on a plate and soak all the oil using tissue papers.
  7. Now for the gravy part, heat a pan and put in some oil. Add the chopped ginger and garlic, the green chillies and sauté until golden brown.
  8. To this add the spring onions (bulb and greens) and the bell peppers (cut them into triangles for a better look). Add the tomatoes (also cut into triangles).
  9. Now you need to add the dry ingredients. Put in pepper powder, all-spice powder, red chilli powder and ofcourse, some salt.
  10. To this, mix in the sauces – soy sauce and tomato ketchup sauce.
  11. If you need more gravy, add in 3 tbsp of chicken stalk.
  12. Now add some cornflour for a thicker consistency.
  13. Finally, add the deep fried chicken and stir well.

That’s it! It’s that easy and delicious at the same time. Serve hot with a bowl of rice or bread and enjoy the Indo-Chinese feeling in your home!
